Saint Louis Polonia Inc. invites you to the preview event of the exhibition of contemporary architecture of Poland. “POLSKA.ARCHITECTURE”, which will be presented at the pop-up event at the Engineer’s Club of St. Louis on Dec. 4 from 6-9 PM.
From music to architecture, music, and visual arts, Poland has a vibrant creative scene that anyone with an in interest in arts can plug into straight away, and the best place to start is the capital itself. The fall of communism in 1989 and Poland’s admission to the European Union (EU) led to many exciting opportunities for Polish architecture. The availability of EU funds for public and private institutions resulted in an unparallel building boom that produced bold and innovative designs for public-use buildings and spaces constructed in such a short time. Those include museums, cultural venues, concert halls, and higher education facilities. The new buildings altered the character of Polish cities. The European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk drawing inspiration from the majestic shape of a ship’s body promotes knowledge about the history and merits of the Solidarity movement. Szczecin Philharmonic, evocative of abstract sculpture, has breathed fresh air into the historic surroundings of the city. The exhibition will feature over 20 display panels presenting those unique designs of contemporary architecture in Poland, which are only a representative sample of a new wave that continuously alters the shape of Polish cities.
